Looking Backward, Leaning forward
Kay Bradley writes about the U.S. from the perspective of having also lived in Brazil, Germany & the U.K., & having taught U.S. History, Comparative Politics and Ethics. And she writes about strength.
1. Why?
I discovered my physical and intellectual power during my high school and graduate school years. And now. I like thoughtful spaces. I want to write in a community of thoughtful people. So many topics interest me that I welcome the opportunity to write short essays and put them out into the world, to follow the threads. I would love conversation and feedback. Who brought me here? Heather Cox Richardson. Thank you, Dr. Richardson, for your remarkable Letters From an American. My earliest posts have been about my yoga and rehab practice after major injuries; the phenomenal migration through the Darien Gap, and Saskia Sassen’s extraordinary book, The Mobility of Labor and Capital (1988!); and a call to read Joseph Stiglitz’s The Price of Inequality.
2. What kind of community am looking to build here?
Thoughtful writing and conversation are so important to me. Evidence-based discussions move us collectively toward understanding. May this space and this community help do these things.
3. How often will I post?
Posts will appear when I write them. At present this appears to be about every one to two weeks. Good writing takes time.
Posts will be free for the foreseeable future.
I would love to connect with subscribers (likely always free) who connect with my interests and goals.
